matschig / gatsching [Austrian German]

adjective: muddy


This colloquialism is used to describe something that is muddy, slushy, or full of mud, like a muddy path.

  • Ich ging am Wochenende wandern, aber wegen des Regens am Freitag waren die Wege so matschig und ich bin deswegen jede zweite Sekunde hingefallen! = I went hiking at the weekend but because of the rain on Friday, the paths were so muddy and I fell every other second!
