Weekly update: warmer German winters, positive news for German care homes

The German weather service has reported that this winter was warmer than it should have been. They recorded an average temperature of 1.8°C compared to the 1961-1990 average of 1.6°C. This is the 10th consecutive year the temperature has been too high.

Environmental activists in Nordrhein-Westfalen have achieved a temporary victory over a chocolate manufacturer that had planned to expand their factory, causing further deforestation.


Health


Following the start of the vaccination campaign in German care homes, it is now being reported that the number of residents infected, ill and deceased has reduced significantly. This is a positive sign, given that care homes in Germany were significantly affected in the second wave of infections.
