Meeting of UK, German and French foreign ministers


On 23 November, the foreign ministers of the UK, Germany and France met in Berlin to discuss a joint approach with the incoming Biden administration. The meeting focused on reviving the Iran nuclear deal, but also reaffirmed shared commitments to tackle Covid-19 and climate change.


First-year EU students face potential £800 bill if not in UK before 2021


First-year EU students who enrolled in UK universities this autumn but have been unable to move to the country due to the pandemic face a new £800 bill for visas and health charges, as the Home Office has said they will not qualify for EU-pre-settled status if they arrive in the UK after the end of the Brexit transition period.

On Wednesday 2 December at 17.30 GMT, EU immigration lawyer Chris Desira will be holding a live online Q&A information session for EU citizens who are living in the UK and have pre-settled status. More information on settled status for German and EU citizens residing in the UK can be found here.


UK-German collaborative research projects and funding call announced


The Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) have announced 18 collaborative arts and humanities research projects, covering diverse topics ranging from hip-hop to argumentation in the UN Security Council. Researchers have until 24 February 2021 to apply for the third round of funding. Research projects can address any area of arts and humanities, including law and linguistics.
