Weekly update: Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) criticises Vienna’s COVID-19 response

Politics

Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) has criticised Vienna’s response to the pandemic, since 60% of coronavirus infections were allegedly registered in the Austrian capital. The political attack is symptomatic of a longer historical conflict between the left-wing government in the capital’s Rathaus and the ÖVP-led federal government; and between the liberal city and the more conservative countryside.
