Weekly update: increased digitalisation, climate protection act reformation brings new rules

Technology

The German parliament this week passed a law aiming to increase the use of digital services in the country. The law will give IDs in the country a unique code that will allow people to access public services online, avoiding the current use of paper forms and even fax machines.

With the reformation of the climate protection act, tenants and landlords will now share the cost of the CO2 tax. In its previous version, the law would have placed full responsibility for the tax on tenants. Following a decision by the constitutional court, it was decided that landlords are responsible for renovations and insulation which affects the rate at which tenants use CO2.
