Weekly update: German officials pay respects to HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

Commemorations


Senior German officials have offered their condolences following the death of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh on 9 April. Messages from Chancellor Merkel, Ambassador Michaelis and foreign minister Heiko Maas commemorated the prince’s dedication to and friendship with Germany.

Tech collaboration


In March 2021, British and German officials participated in a roundtable discussion to spur cooperation between both countries in the fight against online harms. A few key themes emerged – raising awareness, using safety technology as mitigation, and increased bilateral collaboration.


Consular services


Passport, visa, and consular appointments at the German Embassy London will be available again from 12 April 2021. The Consulate General Edinburgh will reopen its services on 26 April 2021.


Event


A virtual fair on studying and working in Germany is taking place between 08:30-16:30 BST on 21 April. The event is organised by the German Academic Exchange Service and will include representatives of German universities, along with international students. Registration required.
