Many clubs have responded accordingly. The four Champions League representatives of 2019 (Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund) have pledged €20million to aid any sides struggling financially in Germany, whilst the players of Union Berlin, who were enjoying a successful campaign after last season’s promotion, announced they will go entirely without their wages.
Other teams have followed suit, with players across the league also agreeing to wage cuts and many donating large sums of money to contribute to the fight against the pandemic.
