Weekly update: African swine fever detected in Saxony

African swine fever

African swine fever has been detected in Saxony. This is the second German state to detect the disease which can spread from wild boar to domestic pigs. Although harmless to humans, it is often deadly to the pigs and has resulted in import bans of all pork products to China, which is Germany’s largest export destination outside the EU.

Artificial intelligence

Researchers for the Bundestag have warned of an arms race and loss of control over autonomous weapons systems without joint international agreement on regulation. They warn that the rapid developments in artificial intelligence have taken ‘killer robots’ from science fiction to the verge of reality and that the situation could rapidly become out of control.
