By Ben Higlett and Dan Reuben In their first season in the Champions League, TSG Hoffenheim became the first team in the competition’s history to come back from two goals down having had a man sent off – a 92nd minute equaliser rescued a point against Lyon to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stages alive.
Meanwhile, Bayern prepared for Der Klassiker by winning their first home game across all competitions in 53 days, ending their longest run without a home win in 17 years. A Lewandowski double saw them overcome AEK Athens 2-0 at the Allianz Arena and in doing so, Bayern move to within a point of the last 16.

Despite goals from Robert Lewandowski twice giving them the lead at Westfalenstadion, it was the more youthful home side who triumphed late on as Paco Alcacer’s 8th goal of the season maintained their 4-point cushion at the top of the Bundesliga.
Following comfortable victories for Frankfurt, RB Leipzig and Möchengladbach, Bayern have slipped to 5th in the table.
