The Bundesliga’s nets barely stopped bulging this weekend, with 37 goals netted. 11 of those were scored by the top three teams, with Dortmund, Bayern and Gladbach all winning emphatically. Gladbach’s stroll to victory at home against FC Augsburg was a club record-equalling 12th straight home win in the top flight whilst Dortmund’s 5-1 triumph over Hannover 96 moved them onto 48 points after 19 games – a new club record at this stage of the season.
The Callum Hudson-Odoi transfer saga rolled on, after he handed in a transfer request on Saturday night to try and force his move to Bayern Munich. He then started in his side’s fifth-round FA Cup tie at home to Sheffield Wednesday and scored the second in a 3-0 win. This result came after Chelsea marked Holocaust Memorial Day sharing a video on social media which raised awareness of anti-Semitism.
Meanwhile, away from football, it was a disappointing end to the World Men’s Handball Championship for Germany. In a tournament that they joint-hosted with Denmark, Germany were overpowered by Norway in the semi-final, succumbing to a 31-25 defeat. Their search for a first World Championship medal in the sport in 12 years then came to a heartbreaking end, as France scored a last-gasp winner in the bronze medal match.
