Weekly update: Dortmund struggle against Spurs

Updated: Mar 30, 2020

By Ben Higlett and Dan Reuben

  • Bayern twice came from a goal down at Augsburg to move within two points of pace-setters Dortmund on Matchday 22 of the Bundesliga season. Two strikes from Kingsley Coman cancelled out Leon Goretzka’s own goal – which had given the hosts a shock lead after just 15 seconds – and former Sunderland striker Ji Dong-Won’s cool finish, before David Alaba netted the winner shortly after the second half’s resumption.

  • Dortmund travel to bottom-side Nürnberg on Monday night knowing a win will restore their five-point cushion at the top. Elsewhere, Claudio Pizarro’s 96th minute equaliser for Bremen against Hertha Berlin saw the Peruvian become the oldest goal-scorer in Bundesliga history. The 40-year-old has now notched in each of the 21 seasons he has played in the league.

  • At the other end of the age spectrum, Kai Havertz is having a breakout season for Bayern Leverkusen. By netting his ninth goal of the season in Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-0 victory over Fortuna Düsseldorf, he now has least two more league goals than any other teenager in Europe's top five divisions this season. It’s little wonder that the talented playmaker is persistently linked with a move to Bayern Munich, and according to recent reports in the British press, to Arsenal.
