Ahead of the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, BBC Radio 4 is releasing a podcast exploring the extraordinary true story of an escape tunnel that was dug underneath it, Tunnel 29. Read this Die Welt news report, “Everyday life in England looks so bizarre”. Among things that shocked the author are: Washbasins with separate taps, standing on the right-hand side of escalators and the lack of taboo topics in UK magazines. Writer and journalist William Cook has been active in the last couple of weeks, writing an article on travelling to Berlin in The Spectator and commenting on the Mauerfall in The Independent.
