Check out the BBC’s collection of pictures on the Bauhaus movement. It’s a great introduction to the school of art and design which has not only gone on to inspire other artist’s in many different fields but is also still relevant today. If you’re in the capital, get yourself over to Rich Mix London to sample the music of German guest workers or Gastarbeiter. These migrant groups, mainly from Turkey, moved to Germany in the 50s and 60s and not only did they contribute significantly to the rebuilding of the country, but they also brought with them the richness of their culture. Don’t forget that Magic Realism: Art in Weimar Germany 1919-33, is still on at Tate Modern until July this 2019. The free exhibition contains many works not usually available to the public, from a very particular period which marked the transition from the expressionist movement to a more austere style which reflecting the political events of the time.
