Weekly update: the legacy of Kindertransport remembered

80 years later, the legacy of the Kinderstransport lives on. A ceremony was held yesterday at Liverpool Street Station to commemorate the first 200 Jewish children which arrived on 2 December 1938. The charity Safe Passage UK is urging lawmakers to consider Britain’s historic role and continue to offer children refuge. If you want to familiarise yourself with the German classics but can’t quite manage the language, try reading in English! Deutsche Welle has made a top 100 list of German novels translated into English. If you’re in Scotland, be sure to check out Fokus, a German film festival which will be showcasing the best of Germany’s avantgarde directors. The festival runs until 31 January.
