Excellent Erling continues incredible start
Borussia Dortmund propelled themselves back into the title race with a 5-0 thumping over Union Berlin. Erling Haaland showed his deadly finishing once more with two goals, taking his tally to seven in just 136 minutes! His teenage counterpart Jadon Sancho opened the scoring at the Westfalonstadion, with Marco Reus and Axel Witsel also on the scoresheet.
Schalke Stalemate stifles Hertha
Defences dominated on this cool winter’s evening at Olympiastadion, with chances few and far between for both sides. Both sets of supporters were raucous throughout the tight encounter, however the biggest cheer of the night came for new Hertha man Krzysztof Piatek, who was introduced around the hour mark. The €27million-striker looked sharp following his move from AC Milan, but he was unable to grab the decisive goal as his headed effort from a corner flew narrowly wide.
Man of the Match: Santiago Ascacibar. The young Argentinian was tenacious and composed at the base of Hertha’s midfield in a solid defensive effort. 19-year-old Turkish centre-back Ozan Kabak also impressed, meaning Schalke did not concede a single shot on target.
Bayern capitalise on draw in Leipzig
After falling 2-0 down in the first half to Borussia Mönchengladbach, RB Leipzig rescued a point with an 89th minute equaliser. However, this result wasn’t enough to reclaim top spot from Bayern Munich, whose clinical attacking display in the first half was enough to claim a 3-1 in Mainz. Hoffenheim also beat Bayern Leverkusen 2-1 in the race for the Europa League spots.
