Dresden Heist

Thieves in Dresden broke into one of Europe’s largest collections of art treasures, the Green Vault museum in Dresden’s royal palace. Three sets of 18th-century jewellery of “immeasurable worth” are now missing, in what the German media has described as the biggest such theft since the second world war. Losses from the burglary are estimated to run into the high hundreds of millions of euros. A famous diamond, the “Dresden White”, a 49-carat diamond of exceptional purity, worth more than £9m is among the stolen treasures. Investigators in Germany have offered a €500,000 (£426,000) reward for information about the Dresden heist. See the BBC video below which includes CCTV footage of the heist.
