It was yet more disappointment for Joachim Löw and his side this week as they were relegated from the Elite tier of the Nations League without even playing this weekend. The Netherlands’ 2-0 victory over world champions France condemned Die Mannschaft to relegation from Group A1.

Germany did triumph in their first game of the international break, however, easing to a 3-0 win over Russia, with Leroy Sané getting his first international goal.
Joshua Kimmich heaped praise on Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz, saying he would be a good fit for Kimmich’s club Bayern Munich. Whether Havertz would be interested in a move to the fifth-place side remains to be seen.
FC Cologne caused controversy by announcing that they had re-signed striker Anthony Modeste on Saturday. The 30-year-old has been in a three-month-long contract dispute with Chinese Super League side Tianjin Quanjian, having moved there in 2017. The Chinese side are now threatening legal action against the 2. Bundesliga outfit as he is still registered as a Tianjin player, despite having supposedly re-joined Cologne on a five-year contract.
Not many footballers are known for their off-the-pitch talents, but Borussia Dortmund centre-back Manuel Akanji impressed with his amazing maths skills on a Swiss sports programme, working out a series of sums quicker than the presenter could on a calculator!
